Project Context
A thermal power plant required a mechanical workshop to support maintenance, repair, and fabrication activities during routine operations, planned shutdowns, and forced outages.
The workshop was intended to function as an operational support facility, enabling timely response to mechanical failures and maintenance requirements typical of large supercritical power units.
Parksons’ Role
Parksons delivered a comprehensive mechanical workshop covering machining, fabrication, dynamic balancing, and heat-treatment functions, aligned with the operational and maintenance requirements of a large thermal power plant.
Scope of Delivery
Workshop Capability & Systems Delivered
Parksons supplied approximately forty machines covering machining, fabrication, and general maintenance requirements for the power plant workshop.
The scope included a Dynamic Balancing Machine to support maintenance of rotating equipment such as fans, rotors, and similar assemblies.
A complete heat-treatment setup was also delivered, including bogie hearth and electric furnaces, enabling stress relieving and controlled heat treatment of components during maintenance and shutdown activities.
Engineering, Documentation & EPC Integration
Parksons managed documentation, inspection, and logistics in line with consultant and EPC approval workflows.
Workshop delivery was integrated with clean handover to the third-party service provider at site M/s. Steag Energy Services for regular operation & maintenance.
Major Machines Supplied
-
Heavy Duty Lathe — 2200 mm swing over bed × 4300 mm between centres
-
Vertical Turning Lathe — 1500 mm table diameter
-
Plate Bending Machine — 25 mm × 2000 mm
-
Dynamic Balancing Machine — 6000 kg capacity × 3000 mm diameter
-
Radial Drilling Machine — 60 mm drilling capacity
Client Outcome
The plant gained an in-house engineering workshop capable of supporting routine maintenance, planned shutdowns, and forced outages.
Critical repair, balancing, and fabrication activities could be carried out internally, enabling faster recovery from mechanical failures and reducing outage-related downtime.
