Typical Applications
-
Turning and reconditioning of work rolls and backup rolls in steel rolling mills.
-
Machining of turbine rotors, generator shafts, and large couplings in power plant workshops.
-
Shipyard machining of propeller shafts, stern tubes, and large marine components.
-
Reconditioning of kiln tyres, girth gears, and trunnion rollers in cement plants.
-
Heavy-duty machining in defence and ordnance workshops for large barrels, shafts, and structural components.
Machine Description
Machine Description
- • All-geared horizontal heavy-duty lathe for machining large, high-mass workpieces under sustained cutting loads.
- • Planer-type bed with V & flat guideways, cast from high-grade grey iron (IS:210), hardened and ground for rigidity and wear resistance.
- • High-torque geared headstock with large spindle bore, supported on taper roller bearings for heavy radial and thrust loads.
- • Bed width and structural mass scaled with centre height, limiting vibration and deflection during interrupted cuts.
- • Provision for gap bed and steady rests, enabling safe machining of large diameters and long, slender components.
- • Suited to continuous duty in heavy maintenance workshops, including brownfield installations.

Configuration Notes
Machines of similar size can behave very differently in real workshops. For heavy duty lathes, performance is influenced mainly by:
- 1. What components you are machining (size, weight, condition).
- 2. How often will you use the lathe (occasional work vs continuous duty).
- 3. How the job is supported in operation (steady rests, overhang, handling).
