Project Context
India’s first second-generation bioethanol plant required a mechanical workshop tailored to the maintenance needs of a technology-intensive process facility.
The workshop was required to operate within a compact footprint, with controlled access and close integration with process equipment, utilities, and safety systems.
Unlike large power or steel plants, the objective was not broad fabrication capability, but a focused, reliable maintenance facility aligned to defined operational requirements.
Parksons’ Role
Parksons configured and supplied a mechanical workshop suited to limited space, controlled access conditions, and specialised maintenance activities typical of a bioethanol process plant.
The scope was aligned closely with process requirements and consultant-defined interfaces.
Scope of Delivery
Workshop Configuration and Layout
Parksons supplied a purpose-built mechanical workshop aligned to clearly defined maintenance requirements for the plant.
Machine selection and layout were optimised to suit space constraints, access limitations, and handling conditions, ensuring usability without excess footprint.
Over-specification was deliberately avoided, while ensuring compliance with operational, safety, and inspection requirements.
Engineering, Coordination, and Support
Parksons coordinated closely with the process consultant to define interfaces between workshop equipment and the process plant.
The scope included layout planning, quality assurance documentation, and commissioning support to ensure the workshop could be placed into service without rework or operational disruption.
Major Machines Supplied
- Centre Lathe — 600 mm swing over bed × 1500 mm between centres
- Surface Grinding Machine — 600 mm × 300 mm
- Radial Drilling Machine — 60 mm drilling capacity × 1500 mm arm
- Universal Milling Machine — 1300 mm × 300 mm table
- Universal Tool & Cutter Grinder — 280 mm swing over bed × 760 mm between centres
Client Outcome
The plant gained a focused and serviceable mechanical workshop aligned with the maintenance needs of a technology-intensive process facility.
Workshop capability was matched closely to operational requirements, avoiding unnecessary machines or large footprint while ensuring reliable support for routine and specialised maintenance activities.
