Milling Heads

Milling Heads

Specialised heavy-duty milling heads engineered as primary power units for plano, travelling column, and special-purpose milling applications.

Specialised milling heads used to extend capability on plano milling machines

Typical Applications

  • Heavy face milling of large plates, wear parts, and fabricated structures in steel, power, cement, and shipbuilding industries.

  • High material-removal milling on welded frames, large castings, and structural assemblies mounted on plano or travelling column machines.

  • Side milling and multi-face machining using auxiliary or right-angle configurations on large-format components.

  • Custom machining setups where standard machine heads lack the torque, reach, or cutter capacity required.

Machine Description

  • • Heavy-duty milling heads engineered as primary power units, defining the cutting capability of plano milling, travelling column, and special-purpose machines.
  • • Designed for low-speed, high-torque milling, suited to large-diameter cutters and sustained material removal on steel fabrications and castings.
  • • Power ranges from 5.5 kW up to 75 kW, allowing the head to be matched to cutter diameter, depth of cut, and duty cycle rather than selected as a generic accessory.
  • • ISO-40, ISO-50, and ISO-60 spindle interfaces, supporting the tooling systems commonly used in heavy fabrication and plant workshops.
  • • Robust spindle and bearing assemblies, intended for continuous operation in dusty, high-load shop-floor environments.
  • • Performance governed by the complete machine system, including mounting method, host machine rigidity, and operating conditions.

Milling Head Range

Application-Driven Selection

Class Series Power Range Spindle Cutter Dia (Steel)
Compact PMH-80 to PMH-200 ~5.5 – 7.5 kW ISO-40 / ISO-50 80 – 200 mm
Medium Duty PMH-300 to PMH-400 ~11 – 15 kW ISO-50 300 – 400 mm
Heavy Duty PMH-600 30 – 40 kW ISO-50 500 – 600 mm
Extreme Duty PMH-750 55 – 75 kW ISO-60 700 – 900 mm

(Exact spindle speeds, quill travel, and spindle dimensions are finalised during application engineering.)

Mounting Options

  • • Cast iron adapter back plates (fixed or tilting) machined to suit cross-slide, cross-rail, or custom interfaces.
  • • Right-angle attachments for 90° orientation — enabling vertical or internal face machining without re-clamping.
  • • Extended reach arms for deep/recessed zones.
  • • Manual drawbar or automatic arbour clamping depending on cutter size and tool-change frequency.
  • • Gearboxes for table drive, cross feed, and cross rail lifting (when supplied as part of integrated system).

Configuration Notes

  • 1. Head selection is driven by cutter diameter, cutting forces, duty cycle, and host machine rigidity — not motor power alone.
  • 2. Final performance depends on the combined stiffness of the head, mounting, and machine structure.
  • 3. Higher power/ extreme configurations are evaluated case-by-case for specialized applications.
